About Me

Hello! I am so glad you are here! My name is Crista Williams and I am a teacher from Portland Oregon. I am deeply passionate about families being involved in their children’s education. This blog is meant to be a resource for families who want to be more involved in the educational decisions of their children.

I have experienced a lot of different types of education both personally and professionally. I grew up in the Northwest states with a combination of home school and public school. When I was in high school I spent a year at sea circumnavigating the globe on a tall ship as part of a Canadian private high school program called Class Afloat.

My undergraduate degree is from Trinity Western University a private Canadian college in Langley BC. My masters Degree is from Concordia University in Portland OR. My license and expertise is in Elementary education K-8.

I have worked in the Public School system as both a paraprofessional supporting students with special needs and as a licensed teacher.

I love substitute teaching because I have had the opportunity experience teaching in a variety of classrooms and schools in the Portland – Metro area. I have had the opportunity to see first hand, specialty schools, private schools, international schools, Charter schools, faith based schools as well as public schools that have a unique emphasis such as fine arts, STEAM and Language-immersion schools. I have gotten to teach in Waldorf (technology free) schools and Montessori schools.

I love talking about different kinds of education but Public School has a unique place in my teachers heart and it is the most common type of schooling that parents navigate.

I started this blog because of the questions about school and the education system in general that I get from parents. I am so excited to be a resource for parents and guardians of school-aged children.
